Our Story
Twelve Years in the Mountains
Vietnam Beyond Tours was founded in 2012 by Nguyen Van Minh, a Sapa-born trekking guide who had spent years leading expeditions through the Hoang Lien Son range. Frustrated by tours that rushed travellers past the very things that make Vietnam extraordinary — the terraced fields at dawn, a meal cooked over a wood fire in a Black Thai village, the silence of a jungle cave — Minh set out to build something different.
What started as a one-man operation with a single Sapa trek has grown into a team of 14 specialist guides covering North, Central, and South Vietnam. Every guide is local to the region they lead. Every itinerary is designed around genuine experiences, not tourist checkpoints.
Today we run small-group adventures for travellers from over 40 countries, with a maximum group size of 12 and a philosophy that has never changed: slow down, go deeper, leave better than you found it.

Local First
Every guide is a local expert. We hire from the communities we visit, ensuring your money stays in the region and your guide knows it intimately.
Leave No Trace
We follow strict low-impact trekking principles, carry out all waste, and offset the carbon footprint of every tour through verified reforestation projects in northern Vietnam.
Small Groups Only
We cap every departure at 12 people. Smaller groups mean less environmental impact, more flexibility on the trail, and a far richer experience for everyone.
Community Benefit
We partner directly with ethnic minority homestays, pay above-market rates, and donate 2% of every booking to the Sapa Education Foundation.

Our guides are not employees — they are co-owners of the experience. Each one has spent years mastering their region before leading a single tour.
Nguyen Van Minh
Founder & Lead Trek Guide — North Vietnam
Born in Sapa, Minh has been trekking the Hoang Lien Son range since childhood. He speaks H'mong, Tay, and English fluently and holds a Wilderness First Responder certification.
Tran Thi Lan
Cave & Jungle Specialist — Central Vietnam
Lan grew up near Phong Nha and has explored more than 60 cave systems in the Ke Bang massif. She is a certified cave guide and trained rescue diver.
Le Quoc Bao
River & Delta Guide — South Vietnam
Bao has navigated the Mekong Delta by boat, bicycle, and foot for over a decade. His deep relationships with local fishing families give guests access no other operator can offer.
